My 8 year old and 3 year old both enjoyed Alton Towers. The grounds of the park are stunning, making it seem a lot less plastic and more holiday like than Disneyland Paris. We went to Disneyland a couple of years ago whilst it was great, I remember the awful breakfast provided at the themed hotels and having to pay through the nose for a nice cooked breakfast and the rest of the day being scared to feed the family as it was so expensive. With this memory in mind, we took a picnic to Alton Towers and bought some coffee from a doughnut stand, they provided the plastic lids and we sat in sun by the lake, which was great until I took a bite of my sandwich and the three year old, with their usual great timing, needed the toilet urgently. Luckily, there was a nice member of staff passing, who directed us to the nearest toilet, which was walkable to whilst carrying the 3 year old. I managed to get back without my coffee having gone cold, though it was a beautiful day. My 8 year old loved the runaway train and three year old loved soft play, like a big flat bouncy castle. My husband loved reading the map when we got very lost in the gardens, children didn't mind this as they got to throw stones into the passing river without being warned not to fall in, as we were very distracted in fact lost in the theme park gardens. I loved the fact that children fighting was very minimal, the rooms in the hotel were great for my sized family and we got a free little pump bag, type bags provided, my personal favourite thing in the world is the free stuff, yes I know the hotel was so expensive and we have paid for two little bags 10 times over, still I can't help liking free stuff. I also like the atmosphere in the bar in the evening. We had a pizza in the main bar in the hotel, we stayed in the Splash Landings Hotel for one night, pizza for 4 came to about £37 but that included very expensive drinks, bottle of Bud was about £3 and a B52 shooter about £3. Entertainment was found by my 8 year old to be brilliant, I thought it was very entertaining, the amount of fun the children got out of the Butlins type entertainment. My husband, at this point, was so mellow that I ordered a cocktail and neither of us thought too much about high prices after that. The water park great fun for us all. We bought a priority pass on River Rapids, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and R0unaway Train made my day at Alton Towers, which was nice as my husbands pet hate is standing in line for anything.
expensive would have been nice to have some sort of deal to stay a second night ,also check out at 10am ed very stressful. They wanted £50 for late checkout. We decided not worth £50 and checked out at 10am
We may have been better going to the Waterpark on the day of arrival, rather than the theme park. It would have worked better but we still had a great time and everywhere seemed nice and clean.
