Bad Points

If you have an accident, they rip you off with administrative fees, loss of use and you have to deal with their terrible customer service.


General Comments

I rented from Dollar a few months back and I had the bad luck that an uninsured motorist hit me and damaged the rear bumper on the rental car. It was not my fault but I had declined accident coverage, since my personal car rental covers me. Also, by paying with a credit card you can get covered for the deductible amount you may have to pay. I realize I declined coverage but the problem is that Dollar tries to make money out of your accident and rips you off with charges! Whilst my own State Farm insurance has been able to contact and reach an agreement with the guy who hit me to get paid back in monthly instalments. Dollar just never put the effort into getting him to pay, making me claim the accident through my insurance. Then I had to claim the deductible with my credit card. The big problem I have are having to pay the bogus administrative fees. First there is the processing fee, about $150! Then some loss of use fee for $100 or so dollars. I understand that if may be it was during a super busy time of the year and by not having that car available while it was repaired they lost business but I have never been to a rental agency where they were total out of cars. I know for a fact that when I picked up the car and returned it the next day, the lot was full. So they just want to hit you with more fees, making money in the process. Of course, they pestered me with phone calls to pay but I am sure they did not put half the effort into calling the guy, who actually did the damage. Rent from somewhere else!
