Good Points

The pilots, even though they looked like teenagers, were very gentle in landing and taking off. Grade A for effort in crowd control and upholding rules and guidelines. The plane took off on time and landed an hour early.

Bad Points

The Philippine Airlines (PAL) website is primitive and filled with outdated facts, take for instance their list of the Board Members and company officials. Choosing or requesting a seat when booking a flight is not allowed; I was told that I could only choose a seat upon checking in. When I actually checked-in for my flight, I did this at 6:05pm as the airport counter opened at 6pm, I was informed that there was no available seat from my list of 24 choices. Check in took 20 minutes, though all my documents were in order and I must have had the lightest and fewest luggage among the many boxes and overweight pieces I saw lined up. The flight crew were mostly snippy and impatient, disappeared after hurrying up the first meal and were never seen afterwards until the next meal. I had requested a diabetic meal and though the meals came at the proper time, they didn't have a diabetic snack and the food tasted like cardboard. The only time the cabin crew were smiling was when they were hawking the duty-free stuff. No one offered water during the entire flight outside of mealtimes. The foot rest for my seat was askew and there was a long thin piece of metal protruding from the side. My personal TV screen wasn't working until late in the flight and they shut off all music and movies/TV whilst the lights were dimmed.

General Comments

It was sad to note the aged and decrepit condition of Asia's first airline. Price-wise, it was a wonderful bargain, if one would overlook the myriad of little inconveniences. PAL needs to upgrade it's services and boost their employees' morale if they want to be considered good.
