Good Points

Online banking is reasonable, but has limited functionality.

Bad Points

Very, very poor customer service. Promises to phone you back leave you waiting days, weeks sometimes. Frequent 'system failures' and inability to contact 'head office' delay processes further. Impersonal written communication. Can't contact branches after 4pm. Very, very difficult to get through to branches, as all calls are routed through a call-centre, who act as gatekeepers for the branches.

General Comments

Been with Yorkshire Bank 10 years and up to about 18 months ago, had a mostly hassle free service. However, elements of poor customer service have started to surface and I'm really unhappy with the service I am now receiving.
I had a £20K loan with Yorkshire bank and wanted to reduce this by £10K, having come into some money. The hassle I'm still currently having to go through (5 weeks later) to do this is astonishing and frankly, totally unacceptable. Firstly, I simply couldn't reduce my loan - I had to take out a new loan AND, add £1000 on to the balance - effectively, they charged me £1000 for reducing my loan. Utterly scandalous. Then, they have some complicated way of reducing existing loans which involves multiplying the amount you pay monthly, so that it meets roughly, or as near as the amount you actually want to reduce your loan by?!?!? Not at all straight forward, very poor customer service. I am waiting for them to sort out the loan I've asked them to reduce, then I'm switching banks - I will consult the www.moneysavingexpert.com website for advice on which bank to use, but Halifax looks good.
Definitely NOT recommended.
