Feels very solid, good handling, fun and easy to shoot.
Open sights are plastic and very cheap, especially the fiber optic front sight, which is very delicate. Cocking effort is a little high for the young shooter.
I bought my Beeman 1040 from Canadian Tire, and have had it for around three weeks. It is a .177 caliber pellet rifle, and the Canadian version (that I bought) shoots 495 feet per second. It's my first pellet rifle, and it's been a lot of fun for plinking so far. I've shot about 150 rounds through it to date, and I have very few criticisms. The only major one for me is the open sights, which are terribly cheap. The front sight is flimsy at best, and the rear sight actually moves around when you touch it. They're all right for plinking, however, and don't necessarily need constant readjusting if you're careful not to bash them around. The 1040 sports a very nice European wood monte carlo stock, which gives the rifle a very professional look and feel. Mine is still in the breaking-in stage, so I cannot give you an exact assessment of the accuracy. However, sighting it in was relatively easy, and hitting a target at twenty yards is no problem. Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone who is a beginner or intermediate shooter and is looking for a fun, accurate, and solid air rifle for a great shooting experience.
