General Comments

Having just returned from a ten day holiday at the Canifor Hotel in Qawra, Malta and having been to Malta three times previously, I thought that I should attempt to write an honest review of the complex, as others seem to be very biased in one direction or another!

I spent ten days in Malta up to mid-July with my girlfriend. We are both in our early twenties and we went All Inclusive. Having read some reviews of the hotel, we were unsure of what to expect, as some raved about the place, but others commented on what an abhorrent time they had. However, considering the price we paid for our holiday, which was £350 each for the whole lot together, we were determined to have a good time whatever. And this is the key.

The reception of the hotel is impressive and clean and quite grandiose. This is always a good start. The rooms are spacious enough for a couple and I cannot complain about this at all. Rooms are cleaned daily and the maids were always very helpful in catering for our needs. However, the management could perhaps do with spending a little money on the bathrooms, such as replacing older shower heads etc to try to live up to the 4* label the hotel has.

The pool area is also kept very clean and we got a spot where we wanted to whenever we decided to spend a day lazing at the hotel. The food is fine. Some people have complained fervently about the state of the food at this hotel, but if you're not too picky and are willing to accept the fact that the hotel has to cater for a lot of people and you will never get gourmet food at this type of hotel or for this kind of price, then you will have no problems. My girlfriend is a vegetarian and we made sure we ordered the veggie option each morning for that evening and we had no problems. Also, if you are having a day out, then you can order a packed-lunch which is more than satisfactory.

The only real complaint would be that there is indeed no decent entertainment at the hotel in the evenings. It wouldn't take much for the management to organise something for the majority of guests to partake in. But, there are plenty of things to do in the area in the evenings and these can be explored easily due to the hotel's excellent location.

Malta is a beautifully historic place and if you are going there on holiday, don't waste your time complaining or thinking about complaints to make whilst you're there or when you get back. Instead enjoy the island and make the most of your time there. We halved our time between being out-and-about enjoying the many things the island has to offer and staying in and relaxing at the hotel. We had a fantastic ten days abroad and would quite happily return to the Canifor Hotel on the All Inclusive package.
