Good Points

Sorry to hear about Ed's problems but have had my used 147 2.0 TS Lusso for 2 months now and its the best car I've ever owned! Looks are fantastic and make it a really individual car amid the generic hatchbacks, the performance is great and the engine note is superb. OK, so I haven't had the car long but it was a used car with 12,000 miles on the clock and everything is working as it should. The Lusso spec means there's a real quality feel to the car. The leather seats are comfortable and hold you in round the tight bends and you get plenty of equipment - elec windows, computer controlled suspension, airbags. Talking of tight bends the handling is superb, the car really wants to be thrown into those corners. All in all, knockout!

Bad Points

If I must grumble then I'd say that the car's sporty aspirations mean you tend to want to push it hard which doesn't translate well to fuel economy (which would also upset the Global Warming lobby). I'm averaging just under 30mpg which at today's prices, hurts. So I am hit in the wallet as well as destroying the planet. Perhaps Alfa should set up an off-setting scheme?
Also, if you live in an area where the roads are worn then be ready for a bumpy ride. The suspension is definitely set for sporty rather than comfort. It doesn't bother me other than making the CD skip a bit.

General Comments

I'm a big fan of Alfa Romeo. I love all that Italian style and sophistication. Alfa really cracked it when they designed the 147 with that front grille harking back to the Alfas of old. Its become the template for all their new models. I've driven all sorts of cars but this is the one I've really taken to. I think its the mix of style and sportiness. OK I'd be happy enough in an A3 if I could find enough cash or in a VW Golf if I didn't mind every other car also being the same as mine but with an Alfa you get the equivalent of Armani in a sea of Next suits. Did I also mention that they are cheap? Of course buy second hand for goodness sake. New there is a spectacular drop in value in the first couple of years. Actually if everyone got one that exclusivity would be gone. Ignore me. They are rubbish. Don't buy one.
