It always amazes me when reviewers are so shallow that they don't reach into the depth of their experience or they shy away from their own history when it comes to emotion. Robert Waller has simply written a little book that tells a potentially real story about a chance meeting in the heartland of America between two people, for what its worth, longing for something beyond themselves - a chance meeting with a soul mate. This can happen. The ability of a book to reach into THAT experience and unearth emotion is the true test of a good book not whether it is rife with cliches, incomplete sentences, foul language and the like. To me the book was touching, gentle and sensitive. True it isn't Emerson, Thoreau, or any number of what the establishment refers to as "classics". It's simply a good book - met its purpose.
Buy this book - sit in a supportive space - delve into your own experience. Some how I really think you'll like it.
