Good Points

Excellent itinerary (but see below). Mykonos and Santorini were stunning.

Captain sailed around Mount Athos and there was a running commentary describing the monasteries.

Interesting resident lecturer.

Lots of deck space.

Good/plentiful food.

We were not rushed off the ship at the end of the cruise. Our flight was in the late afternoon and we were able to book an excursion and then to return to the ship for lunch before being taken to the airport.

Bad Points

There was a problem with raising one of the tender boats at the first port of call (Nauplion). As a result we stayed put for 24 hours, the itinerary was modified and 2 ports of call were missed out.

Excursion itineries were not very clear. We booked a trip to Oia Village in Santorini - but only spent an hour there. We were then taken to a wine/gift shop where we were forced to waste an hour. Would not have booked this trip if Thomsons had told us. The same thing happened in Kusadasi when we ended up at a carpet showroom!

Food in buffet was always lukewarm.

After 3 evenings, gave up taking dinner in the main restaurant. Waiters collected plates before everyone had finished eating and obviously couldn't wait to get rid of us. (Perhaps the second sitting was less rushed) Also, couldn't bear to listen to the same Matt Munro tape again!

All inclusive drinks package is very expensive (£149 per person) and there are so many exclusions that it's not worth buying.

General Comments

Overall, an enjoyable experience though we were disappointed about the altered itinerary and have contacted Thomsons since returning home. Calypso is a tiny ship - but we were prepared for this - and the cruising experience as very different from that on a larger ship. There are advantages though! Getting on and off the ship at ports of call is quick and easy!
