General Comments

The Samsung PS42Q97HDX or PS42Q96HDX are the same model, just some retailers wanted their own code apparently.
I've just brought the 42" version of this TV and I must say it is brilliant. The shiny black frame encloses a very black Plasma panel. A little blue light below the on/off switch denotes standby mode and the swivel stand helps no end with positioning since it is a heavy unit. I also brought a three tier smoked black glass stand which I think complements it well. You will need to add another £100 pounds for that; unless you are going to hang it on the wall .But you will still need a wall bracket. There are slots in the back of the TV to aid with its attachment.
When I first started looking round for a new TV I did not have a clue. The professional reviewers were quoting "motion blur", "fractal patterns"," contrast ratios" Etc etc and not knowing what any of that would actually translate to on the screen did not really help me when deciding which TV to buy. I never had a budget in mind so my decision was going to be based solely on my actual perceived opinion of the picture quality.
And this Samsung performs in that department brilliantly .I love it, and for once some of the added functions actually make a difference. Like the SRS TruSurround XT or the movie plus mode...All good and all make a difference; something to suit everyone.
So in conclusion Don't bother spending £1700 on the latest 8th generation Plasma screen there will be a 9th out next year, Just get one that beats your old CRT or LCD hands down, a picture that Looks brilliant with normal signals and better than real in HD and if you have an Xbox 360 Games look truly amazing and gives you that extra edge on Xbox Live. Pay £700 it's a no-brainer
