Fresh, Imaginative, Stellar Animation
Slightly complex and lengthy for children under 5
Compared to all the animated "ho-hum" flicks we've been bombarded with lately, Ratatouille was definitely a breath of fresh air. Although it doesn't quite reach the sheer brilliance of "Finding Nemo" or "Cars", Ratatouille is nevertheless another feather in Pixar's cap.
The animator's strict attention to detail gives the film that trademark Pixar "real life" feel. The writers were a tad less attentive to their story and target audience as the plot gets a little complex at times for toddlers, and the rats and several other characters had no Parisian accents. The fresh humor and undertone of determination, perseverance, toleration and acceptance that permeate the story line are the writer's saving grace.
The pre-movie short "Lifted" was also a treat that provoked quite a bit of laughter from the audience.
Bottom line:
You can feel secure taking your children (5 and up) to this movie. Old school in many ways. Imaginative and entertaining. Would give it a 9 on a scale of 1-10.
