Good Points

We have just returned on July 8th 2007 from this fantastic holiday. The ship itself is magnificent and spotlessly lovingly kept clean. The staff were impeccable and our stateroom attendant was first class. We ate in both the Windjammer and Minstrel with quality food served. Excursions were value for money and all told we visited 11 places of interest. I was wary, being slightly claustrophobic about an inside cabin but there was plenty of room and the bed was new and comfortable. Plenty of nice lighting, mirrors, pictures, good shower room and fresh clean brilliant white towels supplied everyday. The Staff excelled in their friendliness even though they seemed to work long hours. Nothing was any trouble to anybody.

Bad Points

The travelling was a nightmare. For a normally two and a half hour journey we had to fly from Newcastle at 6.05am to Amsterdam! Up at 4am! The flight from Amsterdam was 12.05pm to Barcelona. we arrived at the ship at 3.30pm. Returning home we arrived at the airport at 8.30am after being woken up at 4am by the Tannoy telling everyone the ship had docked! Our flight was at 12.30pm to Amsterdam then another awful wait till 5.35pm to get a flight to Newcastle. We finally arrived home at 7.30pm! We were told that Royal Caribbean do not use Easy Jet. Well, both our flights were delayed with KLM!

General Comments

We would consider doing another cruise with Royal Caribbean if the flights were more acceptable. The gratuities can add expense and the tipping and charges for everything can make the holiday more expensive for your personal budget. However the cruise itself is great value because of the itinerary and luxury cruising. The ship itself is magnificent and spotlessly lovingly kept clean. The staff were impeccable and our stateroom attendant was first class.

I can't understand why some people complain so much about the logistics of flying to their chosen departure point - why not take cruise only option and organise your own travel?
We chose not to fly and have had no problem in organising train travel from London to Venice (twice), Savona and Amsterdam to join cruises (and get home again afterwards).
And it is surely not that difficult to organise your own flights either - since most cruises leave late afternoon there is plenty of time to find your way to the port.
