Get cold calls about once a quarter trying to sell me the upgraded bank account
General Comments
I've been with HSBC for 14 years and have never had a major issue with them. I have gone overdrawn a few times, but have always phoned them once I've realized and convinced them not to charge fees. Also, they are flexible if you need to increase your overdraft for a few weeks at the end of the month (although you obviously pay the interest for it). I don't visit the main branch so can't comment on the branch service, but I have just used their new paying in machine and it's brilliant - even scans in each cheque for you!
