Good Points

A very friendly welcome from the excellent Maitre d' dispute the fact we were late. The atmosphere was warm and sedate making the occasion feel special. The table was positioned in the corner and that was a good position to talk, and be separated from the larger tables booked for parties of mostly family type in nature.

Bad Points

The menu. This caused all the problems. The Maitre d' was happy to explain a menu that looked as if it was trying to be different....just to be different with no real quality behind it. The starters, although ordinary were good ....my choice, chicken salad, plain in ingredients but tasty and worth ordering again. The garlic mushrooms, were simply that. The main course of duck was awful. The duck, tender, the spring roll contents it rested on, looked a left over from a Chinese take away. The guinea-foul was dry and completely taken over by bacon. The vegetables uninspiring. I hated eating out of a bowl instead of a flat plate. The puddings were fairly good and I enjoyed them. I was sorry I had chosen this restaurant on this occasion as it had previously been good. Maybe it is better in the week, but for a Sunday lunch is was not good.

General Comments

Try to create a good simple menu from good fresh ingredients. There is nothing wrong with the good traditional Sunday roast for the main course ... good fresh organic vegetables are in vogue and very tasty. The key words are' good ' and 'fresh.'

Be experimental with one or two of the choices but not all of them. Give the customer something they know and can relate to. They like good food and they like imaginative presentation but they don't like to grapple with a child's geriatrics high bowl. It doesn't feel good.

Local ingredients are always pleasing ...we all like to promote Wales and if having visitors like to show what Wales can produce. Don't think quirky, think quality.
