Good Points

They answer the phone. In the many times I had to call them, and there were many times, they always answered in less than 2 minutes. That's as a good company should be if they appreciate their customers. Godaddy scores very high on this.

After our first week our experience is that their email pipe and server load is favourably done. Kudos there.

Also they host Ruby on Rails, but, and it's a big but detailed in the Bad Points box below.

Bad Points

Either their phone staff is not adequately knowledgeable or the technical handling is abysmal. We signed up and paid for 2 years on advance for two things: Web hosting for four domains, and email for a different domain. After that first week our experience is that their email pipe and server load is favourably done, but after our web tech and Ruby specialist discovered that our shared web hosting account was not nearly $6/mo, but in order to deploy the site as Ruby normally does, we'd have to get their dedicated server, a 500% increase in the monthly price, but also would have to retain a $75/mo specialist. We cancelled the web hosting. Told their so-called "Customer Appreciation Team" we liked the email service and want it not to be disturbed.

Minutes after I was done speaking with the Go Daddy "Customer Appreciation Team" and patiently explained the reason for cancelling web hosting, and explicitly stating the email service is fine, identified the pertinent domain names they turned around and pulled the plug on our dedicated domain name used for email. They are now bouncing all of our email back to senders effectively shutting down our business.

Needless to say, I called them immediately this Thursday afternoon when our law firm phoned me wanting to know what was going on with our email. Go Daddy's excuse for having to wait until close of business on Friday to restore it is the pointers have to be reset. No one likely told the Go Daddy rep that pointers only need to be reset when their pointing destination is changed or they are pointing elsewhere. No pointers were changed.

Worse, the representative on the "Customer Appreciation Team" said he could not transfer my call to technical. Instead told me to call back. They may have a big pipe, but I think it's not to accommodate their customers. One of the four reps I spoke with today got noticeably irritated that our domain names are registered elsewhere.

General Comments

Summary: of Go Daddy www.godaddy.com Web Hosting
1) Fast pipe
2) Well-sized servers
3) Poorly trained customer support personnel
4) Misinformation given out to this customer
5) Serious lack of professional level service
