Had NTL for about 5 years before moving to Sky and Sky+ last year. Wouldn't be without it and certainly wouldn't go back to NTL. Love the freedom it gives us as we record and series link all favourites like Eastenders but can watch them when convenient plus if they have changed when it's on we don't get caught out! We are no longer ruled by the TV and it's great. We have had a couple of "accidents" but this is just because we got greedy and tried recording 2 programmes at once whilst still trying to watch live TV - you can't do this although you can watch a recorded programme at the same time. I have now wired box to send Sky+ to the bedroom and bought another remote so can watch in bed as well as on the main TV downstairs!
Word of warning: as you buy the box outright you then own it (unlike NTL) and it is therefore best to get insurance (through Sky themselves or others) when the 1 year warranty runs out. My mum has had for a couple of years now and I can see this would be sensible in case things go wrong (and they do). Have a look at www.saynoto0870.com for free or local telephone numbers for Sky (they keep changing so beware).
I never wanted Sky+ but was talked into it. I couldn't understand all the fuss but I really wouldn't be without it now.
