General Comments

I have had four sets of these tires - 2 on a CBR1100XX and 2 on an RC51 - and for what they are I couldn't be happier. What they are is an ultra hi-performance tire that can be used on either the street or for occasional track days. The first set that I bought I mounted on the CBR1100XX and I credit that tire with a major break through in my riding skill and confidence. I got about 3000 miles out of that first set and replaced them with identical tires. At about that time I also put a set on my RC51 for track use. The second set on the CBR lasted about 1800 miles - primarily because I was starting to push them much harder. On the RC, which sees primarily track days, the story is quite different. The first set survived 6 track days and the second set was ready to replace after only 4 (my average track day is about 100 miles). Overall the track behavior is highly predictable and quite friendly. With my setup and running a 190/50 rear the feedback is superb and there is excellent warning - front and rear - when a slide is imminent. With 30 psi inflation I have never experienced them getting greasy and it is quite easy to keep them at the edge of sliding with proper throttle control. However, as expected overall traction is not as good as a true DOT race tire but is far superior to mere "sportbike" tires.

With the four sets used they have all reached wear bars on the sides before the middle - which reflects the kind of riding I do, however, with the first set that were on the CBR the wear was more uniform.

Interestingly, I am no longer running this tire. I have Pilot Powers on the CBR for longer wear, and BT-002s on the RC for higher performance. However, I am about to mount a set of 012SS on my wife's SV1000S.

Bottom line: For super aggressive street riding and beginner/intermediate track riding I don't think there is a better tire available than the BT-012SS. But if you are not a super aggressive street rider you may want something longer lasting. And if your track skills move past intermediate you might want something even stickier.
