Mr and Mrs Twit are disgusting - just what kids love!
They get their comeuppance!
General Comments
The Twits were a horrible disgusting couple. They lived in a house with no windows so no one could look in and see them. In their garden they grew nettles and thistles to keep out the 'horrid little children' and there was also a dead tree and some monkeys they kept in a cage.
Mr Twit had a beard. A horrible spikey beard that stuck out all over the place. Bits of food used to get stuck in it. Ugh!
Mrs Twit was just plain ugly. She wasn't always like that, just grew uglier and uglier as her horrible personality grew more horrible! She had a glass eye. She also had a walking stick - not to help her walk, but to hit things or children with.
Mr and Mrs Twit liked to play horrible tricks on each other - like the time she made spaghetti bolognese for Mr Twit - with real wriggly worms! And put her glass eye in Mr Twits drink so when he reached the end of his drink - ugh! And like the time Mr Twit gradually built up Mrs Twits walking stick and chair legs - to make her think she had the dreaded shrinks! He then told her he would have to stretch her by tying her ankle down and making her hold lots of balloons. She felt a little uncomfortable, but instead of adjusting her ankle ties - Mr Twit cut them, sending her high into the sky! She came hurtling back down when the balloons burst, much to Mr Twits surprise and horror!
Every week Mrs Twit cooked a bird pie for their supper with birds they caught by putting glue on the branches of an old dead tree in the garden.
Mr Twit also kept some Mugglewump monkeys in a cage in the garden, and made them all do upside down tricks which they really didn't like!
One day the Roly Poly bird came to visit, and devised a plan to help the Mugglewump monkeys and the birds who feared getting caught in the glue on the tree and being made into bird pie. And to teach the Twits a lesson they would never forget............
Another great story by Roald Dahl that kids will just love. And if you read it to your children I'm sure you will love this book almost as much too!
