Got my loan in a Sale and got good APR


Bad Points

Loan has been messed up for almost a year
Call centre Customer Service is abysmal.


General Comments

Been with Barclays since 1986, until they messed up my loan in June 05. I had no problems with the original loan, I then needed to increase my overdraft - this could not be approved, but they could give me a loan. If someone can explain why I cannot get an extra £500 on my overdraft, but could take a loan our for £2500 more than the overdraft extension that isn't down to commission, let me know!

Contacted Barclays Call Centre and was advised to take the loan option - according to Barclays, it was best to consolidate the current loan with a new one, increase my borrowing and pay off more debts. They forgot to tell me that the loan would cost more (higher APR), so I cancelled, yet they still set up the new loan. Months of arguments followed and they finally reinstated the original loan.

During the year the bank cancelled the direct debit twice without informing me why and without permission plunging the loan into arrears. They now are not accepting payments from a standing order (which I have not cancelled), causing the same problem of going into arrears - they even made an agreement to take 2 payments in one month and they didn't even do that.

All I get from customer Service Managers is lip service - Sorry we won't do it again. Now they are blaming my new bank for the standing order being cancelled - surely my new bank would have told me?

To sum up - use Barclays if you want - just don't expect perfect 100% accurate service
