Good Points

I haven't been to Knowsley for over 30 years but went last week with my 9 year old son. It was awesome! It's clean and well kept, fairly inexpensive and delivers a great close-up experience of all kinds of animals. We did the safari drive just once but you can go round as many times as you like. The first thing we saw was a tiger within 10 feet of our car, then lions even closer and not caged in! We were stopped on the rod by emu, deer, buffalo, camels and of course the baboons. It was truly jaw-dropping! There are a dozen or so rhino in the enclosures, unfenced, so they can get up close to you. Also wild dogs, bison, the cutest deer you'll ever see, lots of ostriches, wildebeest and more. Only the tigers, elephants and giraffe are fenced in but you can see them clearly enough.
There's also a mini funfair for an extra charge, a petting zoo, bug house and several shows.

Bad Points

Nothing really. Food was mediocre but you can take a picnic.

General Comments

Definitely go through the baboon enclosure. You may get your car wrecked but the experience and risk are worth it. We had at least 3 baboons on our car, one of which pulled faces at us and licked the windscreen, which was gross but amusing. Then we had two of them mating on our bonnet, I kid you not, which was, err, an unusual experience. So the only real warning I'd give is to be prepared for questions from your children about natural animal activities!
We did see baboons pulling bits off other cars but we got away unscathed. You can bypass the baboons via the so-called safe route and still get to see their antics. Maybe next time we'll do this and watch other people's anxieties from a safe distance!
Definitely go to the Sealion show too.
This is a really top class venue and I'd recommend it to everyone
