Good Points

Sleek looking Plasma with excellent quality picture, even on standard definition!
Includes simple 'Plug and Play' set up.
Skin tones are also excellent and nature programmes are really brought to life with this TV.
Freeview facility is included!
Watching DVDs through the SCART RS lead is absolutely unbelievable!
Great pc monitor.

Bad Points

Several people that are a lot more knowledgeable on the subject than me told me, before I bought the TV, that the audio is not brilliant and the range of features is somewhat limited, when compared to other similar plasmas and, although it seems OK to me, it could well be the case. As I am using it with a full 'home cinema' sound system this does not represent any problem for me.

General Comments

Although we have had this Samsung TV for less than a week, the whole family are really impressed, especially when comparing it top our old Philips one that cost over six times as much four years ago!

The only thing is that, following our bad experiences with the Philips, it is absolutely essential that anybody purchasing this, or any other, Plasma / LCD TV purchases an extended warranty.

The other thing is that it is essential to shop around as the price varies considerably. Take into account the cost of delivery and extended warranty.

We ended up purchasing the unit from Laskys (a member of the Comet group) who at £932.00, inclusive of delivery and five year warranty, was £20 under that of John Lewis and by joining a cashback website (which is free) you could probably get another £20 cashback!

One other point of note is that the TV comes with it's own remote control limited swivel stand but as we wanted to have it fixed to the wall, similar to our old Philips, we decided to purchase a wall bracket.

The Philips one simply hung on a fixed wall bracket but, from experience, we found that this is not a good idea as it is extremely difficult, to put it mildly, to access the various video/audio imputs/outputs which are sited at the back of the unit!

This time we opted for a cantilever generous swivel bracket but we were amazed at the different prices on offer!

After considerable research into the subject, we decided to purchase one through Amazon.com at a cost, including delivery charge, of just over £100 (the delivery charge was about £25 which is not bad considering the weight and the fact that it arrived the next day). It is well up to the job and has an adjustable tilt and allows the screen to swivel as much as you would ever need, giving easy access to all inputs/outputs!

This was £200 cheaper than some other similar ones advertised so it is definitely worth shopping around!

I have just been told that the PS42Q96 is exactly the same TV as the PS42Q97 but only sold by the Currys/Dixons/PC World group.

Everywhere else will sell it as the PS42Q97!
