My card is the 'Alterna' Branded version of the Platinum Plus. Not exactly the prettiest card in the world (the 'preferred' one is a much nicer Orange color), however the interest rate of 9.9% (rather than 17.9% on most other versions of this card) is sweet!
For service-MBNA has always been very helpful, with the exception of one single instance.

Go for the 'Alterna' Platinum Plus card!
I wasn't asked for my Alterna account number when I signed up online, so I doubt they checked to see that I was a customer.
