General Comments

The first LOGUN S16 i had went wrong and after having a major dissagreement with simmons they sent me a mk2 version it is much better they are eisaly agusted for power and it is one of the quitest rifles i own. i would not recomend it as a junior rifle as the weight can be a burden when walking long distances i would recomend any one to fit a lasser especialy for ratting.

chris how do you tune the s-16 ?

please let me know there are others out there also wanting to know how to boost the power...

    let me know,

    What is an MK2 version?
How does it differ from the S-16 shown in their catalog. Are you happy now as far as power, accuarcy and general functions/use.

  3. christopher h Rank: Lance Corporal on 22nd Sep 2003

the mk2 version has a better bolt and a slightly diffrent bottle cover. to boost the power you have to remove the scoperail and put some sort of packer behind the spring. size depends ont the increase you want but if you use too much you cannot pull the bolt back far enough to cock the gun. you can get a good 5ftlb if you fiddle about to you get it right. if you want huge power gains you need to get a slightly longer and more power full hammer spring. these can be hard to get hold of mine came from screwfix. you can also increse the size of the through port but this is hard if you drill to much out you will lose loads of power 100ftlb is possible but you get alot less shots per charge my logun runs at about 95ftlb using .22 diu sung slugs but i get 20ish shots.

  4. gudway Rank: Staff Sergeant on 23rd Sep 2003

    Thanks for the great details
Maybe you can clear up another matter.
I read in Logun S-16 ads about
"Pump action" cocking, can you explain that.

    Gudway

  5. TomThumb Rank: Corporal on 24th Sep 2003

The cocking action was introduced into the first logun s-16 in prototype form.
However aparantley the legalities of it were a little complicated so logun went ahead and replaced the pump action with a cocking handle.

strange thing is, there are other air rifles avalable with pump action style. i prefured the pump action myself :/

  6. gudway Rank: Staff Sergeant on 24th Sep 2003

    Right on!
I was first facinated by a lever action like the Careers, but that's too much movement. The quarry is alerted when hunting at the short ranges for air guns. I have not found any other gun with pump action, bolt action is the next better choice
However I think some designers are already working on semi automatic air guns.
Maybe we can launch a concerted effort to find one of these discontinued "pump action" rifles.

Hey chris, I think u should write a detailed document on how to modify the Logun s-16 and place it online for everyone.

For example you could tell us what spring you got from Screw Fix Direct and give us a detailed guilde on how to install it.

People are looking for this stuff al over the world and you could be the man to deliver.

Ill help with storing the file online. contact me on

12 foot pounds is the limit for a non FAC rifle.
    mine is at 12.5

  11. atomicnk Rank: Sergeant on 3rd Oct 2003

Mine is running at about 11.3 average (id fired about 200 shots before i testing the power), i have had it 2 days and fired 500 shots (most was just having fun in my garden but i have had a few rabbits allready), do you need to run in new guns ? or are they up to scratch straight from the box ?

  12. TomThumb Rank: Corporal on 3rd Oct 2003

You have to find what ammo goes with your gun.
yes, their not like a new motobike. They will need a little wearing in but you wont notice anything.

  13. christopher h Rank: Lance Corporal on 4th Oct 2003

The spring came in a box of mixed sizes. I just tried diffrent ones to i got the one that fit. The easiest way to tell the diffrence between a mk1 and a mk2 is to look at the bolt the mk1 has a thin strip of steel to press in when cocking the gun where as the mk2 has a much larger flat plate. and the handle has no knarling on it the mk1 has. i would put a detailed explanation on how to tune th s16 but it slightly iligal. as you all know i've had mine apart again and had a designe drawn up for an adaptor so i can fit twin bottles so i should be able to get huge power and a large number of shots i did a simaler thing with stalker pumer in .50 and dubbled the power over 500 ftlb killed foxes at 150yds but nackerd the valve the pressure crushed it. if it works out ill let you know and send you the designe if you want it. as far as i know there are no other pump action rifles about the pump up are a diffrent thing and are legal. bye the way does any one want to buy a standard mk2 s16 with 4-16x50 preditar scope harris bipod case and pump as new. £650inc postage. any questions to chrish3@talk21.com.

  14. termin8s on 18th Dec 2003

My S-16 blew a seal under the scope rail, so while I had it in bits I looked to see if I could tune it ! and you can....
This is not an easy job though, you have to strip the whole thing down, and in one of the chambers there is a small grub screw which restricts the air flow!!!
If you unscrew this fully you will put the power up to 17.5ftlb, without changing anything, or adding springs etc.
I wish I could give you more details but its very hard to describe, just look for a small grubscrew
    Happy hunting

  15. TomThumb Rank: Corporal on 20th Dec 2003

Ok this is what we are looking for. a small grub screw. well, if you really want to be a star, you could strip it down again and take photos and document it perfectley. that way others can follow your path with out fear of destroying somthing they are still paying off.

I could help you in this process. just give me the pics and the info and i will do the rest and the communtiy here will instantley respect you.

    -tom_thumb@dangerous-minds.com

let me know what u can do.

  16. decoy dave Rank: Lance Corporal on 21st Jan 2004

I've bought an s-16 but the power has been around 11ft lb from the start. Is there a way of uping the power to 12ft lb, and can you give me details as this would be most appreciated?

  17. christopher h Rank: Lance Corporal on 22nd Jan 2004

hi the first thing to do is to try diffrent ammo. mine put out 10.7 with accupell but jumped to just over 12 with air arms field diablo. you can tune the s 16 but to be honest for an extra foot pounds it isn't worth the hassle. if you need any more help email me direct at chrish3@talk21.com

Has any body increcesd the power in there S16.

  19. PaulGatecrash on 16th Apr 2004

Has any body modified there s 16?

  20. avw72 Rank: Lance Corporal on 21st Apr 2004

Yes I did it now do +/- 19ft/lbs without a stronger hamerspring.

    +/- 630 fps with 21.6 grains baracuda`s
+/- 560 fps with 29 grains dae sungs.

I have modified the valve :-)

  21. TomThumb Rank: Corporal on 22nd Apr 2004

What valve did you change? please tell us

  22. avw72 Rank: Lance Corporal on 23rd Apr 2004

I can take photo`s the next time I take it appart?
For me it is hard to tell because I am from the Netherlands so I don`t know exactly the names of some parts.

If you have the whole rifle apart you can see the valve, in the valve`s house there is a bolt with a seal, remove this and you have a hole. 90 degrees to the valve carefully drill the hole to 3mm until the valve wich you have removed of course :-)
    I think I have to take some photo`s :-))

The test with the power was with a 170 bar fill.

ive had one of these guns a week. Up till today everything was good until i got a malformed pellet stuck in the breach. Not realising (just thought i missed) i loaded a second pellet. On this shot the 2 pellets came out with an allmighty bang (even silenced) now when i fire the gun i can feel a small leak of air from under the magazine. Having read this page i think i may have blown the seal that was mentioned above and would be greatfull for an explanation of the repair. i got the scope rail off but couldnt work out how to get acces to the seal.

  25. thedeester1 Rank: Corporal on 14th Jun 2004

i would be interested in the exact way of stripping this rifle as i have taken it down as far as i can see is safe (without causing damage) and the mechanism is still firm in the body. I would also be interested in a more detailed explanation of the "tuning grub screw"! My s-16 also came with a rubbish factory set 8 ft/lb. I have made it 11.8 with the addition of washers behind the hammer spring but am interested in doing this without the addition of washers into my rifle.

  26. atomicnk Rank: Sergeant on 23rd Jun 2004

    thedeester1,
sounds like youve blown you barrel o-ring, remove the fore grip, the unscrew and 2 grub screws just before the barrel taper's. now remove the scope rail, take out that metal shaft, and pull the barrel out straight. look down the end of the barrel, (the consealed end) and youll see the o-ring a few mill in, take it out and have a look if its knackered then theres one in the bag of o-rings that came with the gun, i hope this helps, Nick

  27. thedeester1 Rank: Corporal on 25th Jun 2004

ive since fixed the barrel o-ring and have some other info that you guys may find of use. The gun is pretty easy to strip if your not scared and are a reasonably carefull person and take care when fitting o-rings. The fabled tuning grub screw can be found as instructed below and you can experiment until you reach 12 lb/ft for those of you whos guns are under performing.

    1 remove the scope
2 remove the air bottle (for safety reasons)
    3 remove the scope rail
4 at the back of the gun under the scope rail is a cut out through which you can see the hammer spring.
5 cock the gun so that the hammer is in the locked back position. saftey the gun!!!!
6 hold the gun the right way up and look forward into the back of the hammer
7 at the top of the hammer you should just be able to see a grub screw.
8 with a ball ended allen key you should be able to adjust this grub screw through the cut out for the hammer spring.
9 by screwing the grub screw in or out slightly will enable you to set the valve to open earlier or later when the gun is fired.
10 if the valve opens earlier then more air is let through per shot and visa versa.

im not sure of the gains that can be achieved because i dont have a F.A.C and i use my gun in HFT.(12 lb/ft limit)

My friend has a F.A.C so im thinking of signing the gun over to him and showing him how to make the adjustments. He can add the gun to his cert' and we can legaly see how far we can take this method without legal hassle.

  28. atomicnk Rank: Sergeant on 30th Jun 2004

i tell you now that screw will not give you any significant power gain, for those people who sent their guns back to logun for low power, this grub screw is why as it would have worked its way loose. with the screw screwed all the way in (on mine) it shoots at just under 12 ft lb, this is because the screw will only go in so far .. if you modify the screw (file off sum of the threads, take it out to see what i mean) you can then start to up the power, i havnt done this myself, i only modify as far as i can with out drilling, fileing or any changes that connect be reset as if you have a problem in the future and return it to logun they will see youve modified the gun ...

  29. TomThumb Rank: Corporal on 12th Jan 2005

It would be excellent if somebody could compile a list of modifications that can be done to the logun. I think what would really be great if somebody with some CNC machining experience make an extenction of the barrel.
As the pellet is still being pushed out the gun at that length of barrel and a lot of energy is being wasted.
If you have any pics, please send them to me where I will host them for everyone to see. Thanks, Tom

Hello I found a web site that tells you how to mod your s_16 the only problem is that it is in Russian but you can go to a translation web site and type in the air gun web site and it translates it for you
    www.appliedlanguage.com/free_translatin.shtml
    www.airtuing.ru/logun_s16.html
I heard that if you are a F.A.C holder you can get a bigger valve and pipes for the logun is this true

  31. Rimfire Rank: Lance Corporal on 23rd Mar 2007

Logun S16 is, as all PCP's, reliant on air flow. A stiffer hammer spring, (of the same length), and a slightly larger transfer port will take the gun to FAC and beyond. Take it to bits a few times, take pics of the process then begin the work. Remember, drilling the transfer port too large will decrease power. I shoot 4000ft.lb on FAC full bore, I know power. If you can acquire a section 1 ticket then the Logun will be at it's best around 17 to 26 ft lb, (sub half inch groups, still day, 60 yards). Any more you'll need a divers tank in your backpack and a pair of ear muffs...

If you would like any more advice, you can contact me via the Review Centre shooting forum.

  32. bobbymarakesh on 19th Nov 2007

Guys, what does F.A.C and F.A.C holder stand for? Thanks.

  33. Rimfire Rank: Lance Corporal on 20th Nov 2007

    Follow up;
The S16 12 ft lb is a completely different rifle to the FAC model. It will not go beyond 16 ft lb in stock trim. The gun is a nightmare to strip, I returned two due to an impossibility in re-aligning the barrel,(Logun had to replace both gun Shrouds for some reason?). The bolts inside the chamber strip clean, the front rail bolt has a hide cap, the main spring mod will give you max 2 ft lb increase and any tampering with the valve is pointless and will instantly invalidate warranty. I hate having to write this but I have been tuning air rifles for over twenty years and the S16 is NOT THE ONE. It's a sub standard rifle in stock trim that's heavy, manufactured wrong,(absolutely no barrel support or alignment method beyond the breach) and practically impossible to alter. Why on earth would somebody produce and sell a 500 pound weapon that jam loads every 50 shots without reason causing a full field strip.Logun, although an excellent merchandising tool, are very hard to deal with and the Airgun Centre I purchased it from are about as helpful as a chocolate tea cup. Find suitable land and get an FAC ticket if you want power. I shoot 17HMR flat from 30 yard out to 300 yard and the top of the range walnut thumbhole Anschutz I use was only slightly more expensive than a Logun,(half inch groups @ 150yard)..
I have owned dozens of air rifles over the years and never dealt with one like this. I'm sure if you buy one, take it out of the box and use it happily at 10.5 ft lb it will serve you well for years but please leave it be or go legitimate.
If someone tells you they have a non FAC manufactured Logun that is producing any where near 20 ft lb then they are telling porkys..
Once agin I don't mean to rant but prior to purchasing an S16 the markettng had me hook line and sinker...Get a pre 2004 Theoben, BSA, Career etc and ask me, (if you have a ticket), how to easily get 30 - 80 ft lb and PLEASE don't buy the ridiculous cd's from e-bay sellers who say they've sussed the S16....THEY HAVEN'T
    There,,,,,i'm done,,,,,PHEW,,,,,IT WON'T TUNE.......
p.s. Make sure the dealer who sells you a new S16 gives you the original Logun box or the rifle will be worth far less if you trade it...(yes mr. dealer you probably know who I am now). And if you buy a new S16 @ 10.5 ft lb send it back immediately and demand a product that you paid for on the grounds of the advert, it's your legal right.....

  34. glennsmooth Rank: Lance Corporal on 5th Dec 2007

I just received a new S16 and like most people ... my first try I think I may have jammed a few pellets in there. I'm trying to tear it down but there is no mention of a screw "cap" on the front of the scope rail. It looks very sealed up. Do I need to drill this out? How ridiculous! How do I remove this cap and screw so I can remove the scope rail as the directions suggest?

  35. Rimfire Rank: Lance Corporal on 5th Dec 2007

    Hi Mate,

Tap the side of the blanking plug with a small punch and it should flip out,,,please don't try drilling it. Make sure you use a pair of verniers or a steel rule to make sure you have repositioned the barrel correctly and always push the pellets back through the breech. Use quality and correct size allen sockets and replace the cap only if you want, it's just decoration..............Hope this helps.

  36. kingmanny01 on 11th Mar 2008

if anyone would like info on uprateing your logun s16 i will email you a step by step instruction on how to do it, and trust me it works.

  37. Rimfire Rank: Lance Corporal on 12th Mar 2008

Sorry mate, doesn't work, invalidate warranty, illegal gun............

Air weapons are at the moment on a knife edge with legalisation on one predominent side. 12ft lb will dispatch suitable intended quarry if skill and respect is used.

If you really want to get 40 ft lb from a stock S16 then send me £1 and i will supply you with an excellent recipe for Game pie and you'll get more benefit..........................

  38. ANGRYEAGLE Rank: Lance Corporal on 21st Apr 2008

I have been air gunning for 40 years and i am mega chuffed with my s16s. I have shot thousands of air arms diablos and bisley mags with no probs, i find it very accurate and reliable in standard form. It is fitted with a hawke varmint 2 4.12by44 scope again very good.Perhaps some of the individuals who buy air rifles are the same ones that expect twist/n/go mopeds to do 70 mph!!!

  39. Rimfire Rank: Lance Corporal on 22nd Apr 2008

At last someone with reality genes...!

Twist and Goe's will do 70 mph. often illegaly, always frying pistons/rings, always annoying, noisy and unrelliable and usually worthless at re-sale ------ get the picture.
Some of the guns i use will dispatch a fox at 800 yard plus but there is a certain satisfaction in donning the cammy gear and stalking with a Rapid 7. Skill, field craft, knowledge and silence can't be replaced with a 90 grain copper jacket ripping a deers heart out half a mile away??

Any way, Summers coming, bunnies are breeding, pigeons are feeding. How about a new topic of say triks and technique we can share to outwit prey. I used a carp fishing night light a few weeks ago to succesfully ambush a pestering fox, and dispatched it without a torch after having it take a bait from less than 15 yard.....how goods that folks.?

    Any ideas????

    Heppy Hunting..
