Bought the Rincon almost by accident, i went for a quick spin on one at the local dealer, intending to go shopping around and ended up buying it on the spot.
The bike is faultless, well put together and very grown up in terms of equipment. I ride mine to and from work most days, and every chance i get I'll take the long route home and fit in some off-road trails. Weekend and weekday evening rides through more technical and hard-going mountain and forest terrain, dry or wet, it handles all of it fantastically at this price. Mounts two bottles and a side bracket for mini-pump and a small seat bag for spare tubes etc and still looks great.
I avoided disc brakes as I'm too long in the tooth for such newfanglery - however the brakes are pretty ropy in very swampy, wet conditions. I don't mean rain, i mean submerged in goo - but then what rim brake system does work well. I'm considering changing to more effective blocks to compensate - an idea I got from a Hans Rey interview. There seems to be some variations with models - mine does not have J1 forks, its got Suntour forks, 80mm travel with a lock-out option and some adjustability on the left spring.
The worst point for me was with the dealer, not the bike
After buying the Rincon I bought a boulder for my wife and an animator 16" wheel for one of my kids, the others ride Giant MTX and a raleigh manta ray. The bikes all stand up well, but i was stiffedby the dealer, who removed the standard tyres and fitted Kenda Kwick ones. four flats in three weeks, side wall blow out on the rear, absolute pants.
I was so unimpressed by the service and aftercare from the official giant dealer, having bought the Rincon and Manta Ray there, i went elsewhere for the kids and wifes bike, driving an extra 75 miles rather than give him my money.
