General Comments

Had this Nokia 7250 for a few weeks now having already got a samsung V200 which i've also done a review on. I hope anyone considering buying either of these phones finds this review helpful.

The first thing I noticed when I turned on the Nokia was the colour screen. Like I said I already own a Samsung V200 which I consider to have the best screen at the moment. The resolution was well below par and the colour contrast was poor in comparison too. The screen is also smaller than it's rivals to (v200, gx10, gd87). Having said that the screen does do it's job. For the most part it's easy to read in most light conditions and at most angles. Some of the wallpapers supplied with the phone make it impossible read the screen because of the poor contrast so I found it better not to use a wallpaper at all. overall I find the screen acceptable after all it is a phone and not a tv and screens on the other phones are well known to consume the battery life anyway. My Samsung v200 needs charging every night with only minor use during the day.

The battery life on this phone is something that I like. It easily lasts for five days. That is with a few 5-10 min calls a day plus sending a couple of text messages. I do prefer phones with longer battery life as it can be really inconvienient to keep charging your phone every night especially as I work away sometimes and for long hours so it's not always possible to find the time.

Another area where this phone falls behind the v200 is the ringtones. Just your bog standard polyphonic instead of the 40 poly on the samsung. Again though I find they do the job nicely. They are perfectly loud and clear enough. After all they are only supposed to alert you of an inco ing call. If you don't like the ringtones themselves at least there are plenty of places to download them from unlike the samsung at the moment.

I have owned a lot of Nokia's in my time and the one thing that I've always like is the operating system. It in my opinion has always been the easiest and most logical to use and this phone is no exeption. Everything in the menu's is where you would expect to find it. There are the usual features you now expect like calendar, organiser, stopwatch, alarm. This phone also supports sms and mms. Also it supports downloadable java applications, something the v200 doesn't. It also has the radio now standard and also wap. The phone also comes with a converter application which you can use for converting measurements (i.e. MPH>KPH, Celcius>Farenhiet) which I find quite useful. The two games that it comes with Triple pop and Bounce are ok but nothing to write home about.

The last major feature of this phone is obviously the camera. Like I said before the screen is no match for it's rivals and so the picture quality from the camera suffers too. If you transfer the pictures to you PC then the quality is very much improved. Unfortunately with this phone its costs around £30-£40 for the data cable to transfer these over and with the samsung this cable comes free. You can send the pictures via e-mail to your Pc but this could prove expensive. This phone however does make up for the camera's shortcomings in the fact that there is loads of memory built into the phone. 4.9mb is what you have when you buy this phone. 5mb if you delete the games etc. And you can adjust the quality of the pictures. On the v200 around 100 pictures is the limit but depending on the pictures themselves this phone can hold far more. Infact i'm yet to fill it up. with this phone the camera is more of a bonus but with the v200 it's the main selling point.

Overall I've found this phone really good the use. At the begining of this review it might sound like I don't like it that much but overall I prefer it to the v200. It fits in your pocket better (no arial sticking out) and overall feels a bit tougher. I've always been worried about the hinge on my v200. After only a few months it feels a little worn and out of alignment. The battery life also wins it over for me. Everything else seems fine, excellent reception. This phone gets reception (1-2 bars) where my other doesn't get any.

My conclusion... If you've always had Nokia's in the past then you shouldn't be dissapointed. Everything will be familiar and overall one of the best nokia's ever. If camera and screen quality are your main requirements then stay clear and fo for the Samsung V200.
