Good Points
Better than Heathrow.
Bad Points
Poor organisation at gates and passport control. Food and drink vendors are all allowed to smoke despite no smoking signs.
General Comments
We arrived at the airport on a visit weekend visit to Frankfurt. On arrival Signage was particularly poor and confusing. At passport control, a very large queue developed very quickly. There were 8 booths of which four were manned. One booth for European passport holders, which was 90% of the queue, and three booths for non European passport holders. No effort was made to redress the balance and the European queue took 40 minutes to process. After passing into the baggage hall, the flight baggage took a further 20 minutes to appear. The famed German efficiency was not in evidence at all.
On our return to the airport we had to pass through three hand baggage X-ray queues before getting to our gate. Needing refreshment, we stopped at the Goethe-Bar and ordered an apple juice and a cappuccino. The apple juice had an unidentified contaminant floating in it and was exchanged for another that was improperly mixed due to a problem with the syrup dispenser. The coffee turned out to be a cup of steamed milk without any coffee in it at all. The staff were disinterested and rude. There were a large number of No Smoking signs throughout the bar area, which were being actively ignored by the majority of customers and staff.
On the whole, my experience of this airport was not in the least favourable and I would not recommend anyone to spend time there either direct or in transit.
