General Comments

Overall i've been really pleased with the limit 9900se. However my only basis for comparision was my playstation 2 which was my dvd player before this. The lack of a standby button is a bit annoying but i just stop the dvd and leave it on if i'm in bed. I've been assured by the staff in RS that this will not do any harm to the machine. The main thing that's annoying me at the moment is the way that dvds play in a letterbox format, i.e. with black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. This gap is bigger with certain dvds. I thought it was my tv but it happens on my parents widescreen tv as well. Is this a feature of this player, can anyone help please?

I have also noted the letterbox format on my normal tv, which is a result of the widescreen format the film is shot in. The ratio is usually 16:9, as opposed to 4:3 format for normal tv sets, and the picture is adjusted to fit the width of the screen, hence the black bars at top and bottom. Most widescreen tv's have a zoom or force full screen option to fill the viewing area, at a loss of edge picture or by stretching and compressing. The result still looks better than normal 4:3 pictures stretched to fit 16:9 !
    Hope this helps.

An additional note! Press the menu button with no disc inserted and you will get a further set of menus to adjust the sound and picture. Play around with the settings on there if you wish. No harm can be done, and any settings will be lost when the unit is switched off. Thre are Letterbox, and other options available which can make quite a difference. Click.

As a dvd king myself I have to agree with Mr. Edwards. I find that the 'letterbox effect', as it is called in my dvd circles, is particulary annoying when trying to watch 'David Bowie - All the Hits', it really puts me off my stroke.

I have also noticed that the Limit 9900SE DVD player, whilst slimline and sleek to look at, has a remote control that is not Bear friendly. The buttons are too small for large paws, and holding the remote is especially difficult when only one hand is scotch egg free to operate it.
