Good Points

We have been to Kalives twice and then to Plaka last year. We love this area. It's ideal for those with younger families but also the older generation, as it is very quiet and has a laid back atmosphere. The beach here is good and the sea very shallow for miles. The people are very friendly. The Apokoras Apartments doesn't contract to Manos anymore but you can find them on the web at www.apokoroshotel.gr/apocorosinenglish. Don't be afraid to book directly with them and then book your flight separately. The airport is only 20-30 minutes away and there are plenty of taxis outside to take you to Kalives. You will get a very good deal this way! The apartments are very basic but that is Greece I'm afraid. We booked the 2 bed apartment so the children could have their own room. You don't get a lounge but you do get fantastic views from your front balcony over the sea and harbour. Stunning at night! Another bonus is that they are less than 150-200 metres from the beach. The apartments are very clean with maid service every day. Don't bring sand into the apartments as the cleaners go mad! We find these apartments clean and comfortable but basic.


Bad Points

Very basic kitchen, not a problem for us as we ate out but it might annoy some. No air conditioning, late June is the best time to go anyway! Mind the small road along the beach. The locals love their mopeds! Also, take care on the roads through the village, there are no pavements and the Greek drivers don't care!


General Comments

Kalives is a lovely traditional village. It's not as quiet as it used to be but still retains a lovely charm. Go there whilst it's still lovely!
