Suitable for use on PC networks.
Free version is complete, not a reduced feature copy of Pro version.

Bad Points

Still Beta status, i.e. not yet final release version.
Untested by main test organisations
Live cover not quite up to competition standards.

General Comments

AntiVirus 2.0 beta is unusual among the freebies in that development of the project is funded by other divisions within Comodo, the Antivirus is free to all potential users and is a complete product with all features available at all times. There is no Pro version with extra features financing the freebie. This does not however mean it's Open Source, the product is a commercial item owned by Comodo and is subject to the usual copyright regulations.
It's a nice product that scans any executable that's run and offers HIPS ( Host based Intrusion Protection Scheme) and e-mail scanning along with the usual scheduled or manual scan of hard drives. Updates are automated and run quite smoothly. So far on my test machine it's run smoothly without any excessive system load, hasn't clashed with other programs and has been completely stable.
It is however still a developmental Beta product, without certification by ICSA , test by Virus Bulletin or as far as I can ascertain any of the other independent test bodies. It seems to work, but as I've not got loads of in the wild virus code to test it with can't swear to its efficiency and that, despite my generally high opinion of this program is why I've chosen not to recommend it.
Home users would probably be safe with this, but there are certified options that will definitely keep you safe that I'd recommend in preference. Business users who can't or won't pay for antivirus protection really should rethink as it's foolhardy, but this is a viable if untested option if you can't be persuaded otherwise.
I'm happy with the way this beta version has worked so far and will continue to monitor its development, others would probably be wise to wait for the release of the finished product.
