General Comments

I really appreciate the Review Centre site. I read a bunch of the reviews, and I thought I would share my experience so far as repayment.

I only shot the Gamo Shadow 1000 once, into the ground so far, so I can't speak to accuracy or anything right now. I previously had an RWS model 34. A friend and I bought (the 34) at the same time; he a .177, me a .22. At first I liked mine better, but as time went by I started to realize I made a mistake, and I should have got the .177.

The spring displacement for most of the spring-piston airguns, the RWS model 34, The Gamo 1000s, the Beemans etc. are made for .177, the .22 just doesn't have the penetration, velocity, or accuracy. You don't get the feeling that the piston is hitting the air cushion at the end of the stroke like you do with the small bore. Buy heavier pellets for the .177, or get a magnum .22.

Anyway, to the review, I just bought mine at Walmart ($148.00). They call it the Big Cat. It is the F1200, but it is identical to the Shadow Sport, and I saved $10 over Academy prices. It came with a heavy duty BSA 3x9 scope. I liked the rings, scope, everything except the allen wrenches they included. Be very careful and patient tightening the scope, or you will bung the allen screws. Also, there is a recall.

Visit the Gamo link provided. Basically they recalled 14,000 air rifles, mine included (go figure). I looked it over and here's the deal. Some of the dovetail scope mount have two holes. The big hole goes to the back, and the pin from the scope goes in the big hole. The links spell it out. Basically, I looked it over and determined there was no problem.

I like the feel and sound of this gun, it is about $50 cheaper than the RWS, and probably about the same quality. I would recommend an RWS 34 or the Gamo 1000s in .177 only.

I hope to have many happy days shooting the neighbor's rat's that wander into my back yard. It may feed me a squirrel or rabbit someday too. Good luck to all.
