Good Points

Good housekeeping, helpful staff, great pool, food and drinks available from 07:00 until 23:00. The package was excellent value, considering the hotel and resort facilities.

Bad Points

There was no air conditioning in the bedroom, but our room overlooked the aircon unit for reception which made it noisy to TRY to sleep with the balcony door open for ventilation. The temperature was in the 30s. Some of the entry charges to attractions were higher than we were told. Outside the resort areas you really need to speak a little Bulgarian. We found some inland areas are quite poor and depressed in stark contrast to the coast.

General Comments

Albena, Magnolia Garden Hotel is a generally well run family oriented hotel with helpful English speaking staff and excellent house keeping. The pool complex is particularly good. Some of the food was not to our taste but there was always something we liked. The hotel is situated away from the beach which is five minutes away although the walk includes several flights of steps. Alternatively there is a regular free bus service or a road train for a small charge. Our travel outside of the resort was mainly by taxi. The fares on the coast were much more expensive than elsewhere in Bulgaria but still reasonably by UK standards - DO agree a price for your journey before getting into a cab. Most of the drivers had some English and were extremely friendly and helpful. There were touts and street traders everywhere but they were good natured and not persistent. With very few exceptions we were pleasantly surprised by our stay.
