Good Points

Excellent on rythmn. Good all rounders.


Bad Points

Slightly heavy bass. You may find it difficult to find stands with big enough top plates, but buy a pair of Soundstyle Z2 and they will sound beautiful. Even with speaker stands that have big enough top plates they may slip off if you bump into them, mine have suffered a little damage over the years but nothing to worry about!


General Comments

I've owned a set of Eltax Monitor III speakers for many years now (beach) and I've always been happy with them.

If you want some advice on their placement then I recommend buying a set of floor mounted speaker stands as they are absolutely essential for these speakers! I originally put them on the floor, but I then bought a pair of cheap Acoustic speakers from Argos (£30) and filled them with sand. Doing this improved the sound quality by a massive 300%! In the last year I have upgraded to the excellent Soundstyle Z2 speaker stands (5 star award winners in What Hifi £60) and I have again noticed a massive markup in sound quality.

I originally placed them with a Cambridge Audio A1 mk 3 amp and Sony CDPXE570 CD Player (excellent) but if you really want to make the Monitor III s sing then buy a Cambridge Audio Azur 340ASE (or 540A).

After all of these upgrades I am beginning to experience the absolute maximum from the Monitor's and can now make a proper judgement on their sound quality. The only thing I am noticing at this point is that the bass can be too heavy. Other than that they are excellent on rythmn but good all rounders mainly, they won't let you down.
