General Comments

I was a bit apprehensive about the Bonaparte restaurant in Hornchurch, as I have never tried French food before. I've got to say, I was incredibly surprised at how well presented the place was. It made me feel like I was actually in France. The service was impeccable! The menu was a bit reserved; mainly fish, beef and lamb, but they know what they are doing with it. I started off with the smoked salmon with toast, which according to my companion was the best bit of salmon she had ever tried. She had the mussels in garlic butter for start, and she tried the set menu and had lamb with rosemary sauce and sauteed potatoes, which was beautiful she said. I went for the steak with the Bearnaise sauce. Having never tried the sauce before, I tried it and wasn't overly keen on the sauce, but the steak ... in my 25 years on this planet, I have never had a steak like that! It is the best steak possible!! I had mine served with French fries and garlic fried mushrooms, which was a mix of different mushrooms, which was different to what I'm used to when I have mushrooms.

My food filled me up, but we has the profiteroles, which were lovely - the chocolate sauce is to die for!

The staff were friendly throughout, and nothing was too much trouble for them. It seems to be a family run business, and the owner/manager knew all of his regulars by name. This to me is a brilliant place, and I will return!
