OK, its a bit expensive, but you're happy to pay it in England, so what's the difference?

General Comments

I go to this hotel twice a year and I think its the best in The Gambia. Its location is out-of-the-way but it states this in the brochure so should not come as a shock to anyone. I love the location as I don't go there to 'party' but to relax and talk to the locals and hotel staff.
The people are the friendliest I have ever met - even the 'bumsters'. Just tell them your don't want anything or have nothing to give them and they will instead become your friends and tell you far more than the tour operators will. A lot of the 'bumsters' and hotel staff have now become great friends of mine and I visit their families and they visit mine when visiting England.
Food is always to a high standard - yes might be nice to have more Gambian food, but if people in the majority don't want this then they are not going to waste the food by preparing it. There is always plenty of choice and plenty of it.
Air conditioning is in both the rooms and hotel building and is always on. Flies and mosquitoes are a problem but this is due to the humidity of the country and not the hotel standards. Bedrooms are sprayed every night by the porters...the people that choose not to have their rooms sprayed are often the ones complaining the most! funny that...
Rooms are always clean and well maintained and the maids lovely to talk to.
People need to remember they are visiting a third world country so can't expect the Hilton - visit and enjoy the culture and put your feet back on the ground and join us in the real world and you will see what a beautiful and friendly country this is.
