Big Dave Midlands's Review of Autotrader www.autotrader.co.uk

Overall Rating

4 stars
    Good Points

Choice when buying, website easy to use, prompt email response from customer service. Better value than eBay.

    Bad Points

Some other internet vehicle selling sites are free, you are paying for the reputation and coverage.

    General Comments

Autotrader is beyond doubt THE number one website in the UK for buying or selling vehicles of all types, you can purchase anything from a digger to a Ducati.
Exchange and Mart used to be almost level pegging with Auto Trader but it lost its way a few years ago, with an over complicated website. I also used eBay for a while but got fed up with time wasters phoning me with stupid low offers when selling, and dishonest sellers posting a description of the car which was a work of fiction.
Autotrader consistently delivers a wide selection with the best search engine. Their customer service is also superb with emails quickly answered. Recommended.

Since I wrote my review, the Auto trader website has undergone a great deal of revision, and I am sorry to say not for the better. Previously we had a clear and easy to use website with simple navigation and drop down menus. Now we have a heavily rebranded live site that is still being beta tested and developed that is slow, has fisher price icons, crashes regularly and is basically a rebranding disaster that ties in with their recent TV ads. For me the main issue and fundamental flaw is that navigation of the vehicles that are for sale is slower and more cumbersome. Every time you click on a picture of the car is launches a separate screen that is slow to move across, and why when I am looking at 2nd hand vehicles, do I need to be told how many new vehicles are available? They have also tried to be clever and introduce a comparison feature but this simply slows the site even more, and it is nothing I couldn't do myself by launching a separate browser window by right clicking on the mouse or clicking my thumbwheel. I could go on and on about how poor the new rebrand is but instead I will summarise by saying that if the site doesn't switch back soon, I would imagine the competition, especially a certain well know internet auction site will be rubbing their hands with joy at the extra revenue coming their way.
