Good Points

I have been to Palm Grove 5 times over the last 2 years. Everyone is very friendly! I would not go to any other hotel in Banjul, purely because this hotel, although a little worse for wear and tear, is the most friendliest place you can imagine. The bumsters you just say no to and tip at the end of the holiday those who you feel have assisted you well. You must try a massage, which is one of the best I have ever had. The Official Guide will take you into Banjul Market hassle free - don't forget to try the fresh fruit smoothies when out and about in the market place. Cannot fault the hotel at all. The weather is absolutely fab, the people are fab. Oh, before I forget, make sure you visit one of the best beaches that I have ever come across its just past Brufet - Sanyang Beach - the bars are fab, welcoming and the demoda dish is something else.

Bad Points

No bad points, apart from don't go just at the end of the rainy season - first couple of weeks in November - there are a lot of insects left over from the rainy season - white bugs in particular which are harmless but very annoying.

General Comments

I have never had a bad holiday at Banjul Highway, Palm Grove Hotel - the thing I love about it is that once you have been and returned, the staff and people in general never forget you. They know you by name and the service only gets better.

I wouldn't go through the tour operators for excursions - hire a guide and a taxi/jeep for the day and explore the real Gambia and people - very safe and worthwhile.

The Gambia will be the next hot-spot - Cape Verde is already up and coming and property is very cheap. The prices will go up though now that there is investment by the Americans - The Sheraton Hotel at Brufet opposite the new estate and the investment by Kuwait in the infrastructure. If you want to eat out at all try the African Queen and Yok, they are absolutely fab restaurants. I am going back to Palm Grove on Easter Monday 9 April for one week with my family.
