General Comments
If you have this problem with your Philips 32PF9964: When I switch the TV on, it appears as though it is going to start i.e the green light comes on, then after about 10 seconds it switches itself off and the standby light flashes red. It takes 10 /12 times before it starts and is getting worse.
This is the solution:
The problem is three caps.
Change the cap 2663, 2664 both 100 /25V
and 2662,1000 /25V. After you have changed them your TV will work again.
You will find them easy if you unscrew the back on the plasma TV.

on 30th May 2007Hi,
I know where to buy in Sweden but not where to buy in England. Try and search for a semiconductor store close to you.
If you don't find any shop you can try and order it from this shop where I bought mine http://www.elfa.se/.
Don't forget to buy a soldering iron and solder paste if you don't have that.
Go for a cap with 105 degree instead of the original 85 degree caps. Then they will last some longer time before you have to change next time:-)
The caps is very cheap, will not cost you more than around 2 Euro. If you don't have the tools and paste go for the cheapest one. Then you will get your TV fixed for less than 15 Euro total:-)
Good luck

on 30th May 2007Hi,
Many thanks for the additional info.
Unfortunately, although I have built a couple of pcs, I am a complete novice in this branch of electronics so my niece's husband, who is very knowledgeable in this field, is coming this weekend to have a look at it - I will also need his help to actually lift it off of the wall brackets!
He has asked me to clarify with you that the cap numbers you mentioned (2663, 2664 and 2662) are actually printed on the circuit board and roughly where is the particular circuit board located in the tv?
I have found a local company that sells capacitors but there are several different types and I am not sure if they have the particular ones that I need.
Their website address is:-
http://www.maplin.co.uk/family.aspx?menu=1697&MenuName=Capacitors&worldid=-2&doy=30m5
Once again, any advice that you are able to give me would be very much appreciated!heddan99
on 31st May 2007Hi ,
I had a look on the site.
It looks like this is the capacitors you shall buy.
Radial Electrolytic Capacitors
PC Elect 100uF 25V VH37S 106 0.11
PC Elect 100uF 35V VH38R 553 0.16
PC Elect 1000uF 35V VH51F 305 0.72
You can choose if you want 25V or 35V capacitors. The only difference is that 35 V will be a little bit larger. I think it looks like 105 degree cap and that means also they will be bigger than the existing ones. But don't worry, they will only last longer than one or two years as the original does:-)
The numbers are printed on the circuit board and you will find them easy. They are located on the power circuit board. When you have unscrewed the back and removed the cover you will probably located the power board close to the middle. If I remember right the cap were located in the left top corner of the power board.
Good luck. I think you will make it. Let me now how it went.
Cheers

on 4th Jun 2007Hi Jonas,
Many thanks for your help and advice, it really is appreciated!
Unfortunately, we changed the capacitors yesterday but the TV still refuses to power up (exactly the same as before)
However, we discovered that printed on the 100uFcaps, but not visible until they were removed, it actually has 50V not 25V!
It is also noticeable that whilst one of these is 85deg C but the other is 105deg C (this must be the one that was replaced when it was repaired in 2005)!
The larger 1000uF cap is 25V 85deg C which we have now replaced with the 105deg C!
As we have the larger 42PF9964, we think that the 25V 100uF caps may not be sufficient to power up this TV but would greatly appreciate your comments on this and if you believe that this is not the case is there anything else that you could suggest that we can try?Barbusa
on 13th Jun 2007Hi Jonas,
Have today replaced the two 100uF caps again with 50V ones but the screen is still not working.
When the unit first developed the fault, prior to the original repair, the flashing green light would be accompanied by a continuous clicking sound before the picture eventually appeared!
However, now there is just one click when the unit is turned on and then there is no sound, although the green light appears for several seconds before it turns to red.
In your opinion, could the problem be caused by a faulty or burnt out relay switch, or do you think it is some other component on the power supply PCB?
Many thanks again for all your help!iamthenewno2 on 27th Jun 2007
heddan99,
Thank you for your solution, you have saved me a fortune. Your fix worked and cost me all of £1.04!
This is exactly what the internet is for.
Well done again.KenAdam on 27th Dec 2007
Thanks for the tip. My 42" Philps Plasma died the day berfore Xmas, and I bought the 3 caps (63V version, since the originals were 50V) and I've got at least a few more days out of it so far.

Thank you very much for the advice on the switching off issue. I had been informed by the Phillips service center that it would cost in excess of £400 to repair my 32PF9964.
Last night I purchased the capacitors from Maplin at a cost of £1.04 The capacitors were as you said on the center board top left had side. They were easy to replace with a soldering iron and desolder gun. Warning to others these are electrolytic caps and polarity needs to be observed. Also a Torx screwdiver is required to undo the case and pcb screws. The total time to do the job was 45 minutes. The TV now works (I checkid it again this morning) and I have saved nearly £400. How can Phillips justify this repair cost? Thank you so much from all my familyneil webb
on 4th Oct 2009I found this review very helpful because...it was a solution to an otherwise impossible to solve problem and saved in repair costs.

I am very interested in your comments as it seems that I have nothing to lose by getting someone to replace the capacitors as suggested but I have not got any idea as to where I would be able to purchase the parts so any help that you are able to provide on this aspect would be very much appreciated!
