Nationwide do generally have a reasonable rate of interest on their Smart Children's Saving Account, although with a bit of shopping around these can be bettered.
But don't go into a Nationwide branch if you haven't got much time. For the second week running our city branch has had queues out of the door. I waited 25 minutes in the queue, and during that time they closed 1 of the 3 cashier windows - even though they still had queues out of the door. When we questioned why we were told that the cashier had to go for their lunch break, and when did we expect them to go? When I asked why they didn't have part time cashiers just to cover the busy times during lunch times, I was also told that Nationwide Gloucester didn't have part time staff!
Overall, the customer service is extremely bad - my family and I have a lot of different products with Nationwide, and we will now be actively moving these away to other providers.
