General Comments

I suggest no one buy a Maytag or the dependability plus extended warranty!! Let me tell you why.......We bought a Maytag Washer, the SAV series, in November 2003. I was under the assumption that Maytag was the best company out there for appliances and was delighted to finally purchase one. Fourteen months later we found ourselves calling for service again and again for the same problem of water leaking out of the front and a screeching sound.
After conducting a significant amount of research on the internet I have found that hundreds of people have had this same problem with the "triple lip seal" and the bearings of the machines of this series. The repairmen came to my house on five occasions for the same problem and misdiagnosed the problem choosing only to lubricate a failing system. During one of the five reoccurrences the repairman replaced the triple lip seal, but this lasted only a few months and I would have the problem again.
Well now it has been 3 years and for our last service call Maytag sent out a technician from a local appliance repair shop, this honest technician said that this problem has been here since the beginning and basically the Maytag repairmen put a band aid on a problem that would eventually lead to total failure of the machine and they would have to rebuild the machine. A week later the machine failed and no longer would work at all.
The extended warranty company (Maytag Dependability Plus) called to advise me that they would not authorize these services because the price of this repair and my previous service calls would exceed the price I paid for the machine, therefore, I would be financially responsible for the repairs. I then argued that this machine is a "lemon" and I have called for this same problem five times and it was never repaired. They stated to qualify a product as a lemon it must have been repaired the same way three times. The problem with that argument is that is under the assumption that the repairman properly diagnosed and repaired the problem. That did not happen and a significant failure was imminent.
It makes me furious that Maytag refused to acknowledge the problem and they knew exactly what was wrong with it from the beginning.

I found this review helpful because it exactly describes problems I'm having with the Matag washer. I agree - don't buy a Maytag. Ours is failing after only 3 years; our last washer lasted nearly 20. Maytag does not admit to a defect, but I know there is one... too many online complaints about the same condition to be random failure.
