You get what you pay for - don't expect customer services to return your calls

General Comments

I recently received a renewal notice for the insurance on my car, and I paid the quoted amount. The insurance certificate and the paperwork followed soon after in the post. A few weeks later I rang Dial Direct car insurance to get a quotation for a second car I had purchased, but the operator couldn't access my account because the original policy had been 'suspended' - but nobody had bothered to contact me. The operator took my details and promised to contact me the next day. Two weeks later I received two letters from Dial Direct; one regarding 'payment for your insurance', and a second one with a car insurance policy quotation. I contacted Dial Direct the next morning and spoke to customer services, and the operator said she was unable to deal with this issue and would have somebody contact me. When I hadn't received a call by that evening, I contacted customer services again, and the operator informed me again that policy had been suspended and that vehicle was uninsured and I should not drive it. She suggested I would need to take out a new policy.

My concern is that as far as I was aware I had paid for the policy at the price Dial Direct had offered and received the insurance certificate - nobody bothered to contact me to tell me otherwise. To add insult to injury, the new quotation price is less than what I originally paid, yet the old policy cannot be transferred - I have to pay for a new policy and then get a refund on the old one. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

If you read about some guy going 'postal' at Dial Direct, you'll know the story.
