Beautiful guitar / violin introduction/melody
Incredibly pleasantly surprising and interesting hip-hop/rap interlude
The song is longer than your average pop melody (7:28) with probably excessive repetition of the bridge and chorus.
Track 6 of Justin Timberlake's second album FutureSex/LoveSounds, "What Goes Around... Comes Around", is a beautiful blend of guitar and violin instrumentals and traditional percussion beats of modern pop. The song could be classified as a typical Justin Timberlake story of relationships -- this song detailing one with a former love that went wrong due to her deception and infidelity and how in the end karma places her in the same situation an unfaithful partner. The song opens with "What Goes Around..." where Justin descibes how the relationship ended and concludes with how karma returns in "...Comes Around" featuring the infamous producer and co-writer Timbaland.
The song has been referred to as a sequel to "Cry Me A River", from Justin's debut solo album Justified (2002), which many have suggested was written about his failed relationship with pop princess Britney Spears. Despite the uncanny similarity in the lyrical content of the two songs, there is something distinctly different about the feel of "What Goes Around... Comes Around". The production of this song, and moreso the entire album, is unlike anything you may have heard in Justified. The talent and experience of Timbaland has really made an indelible impression on not only this song, but all other nine songs on which they collaborated for the album.
"What Goes Around... Comes Around" has been released in three countries outside the U.S., including Germany and the UK. Since it's release in November of 2006, the song has topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 ( March 3, 2007) , and managed to place in the top 5 on at least three other singles charts globally, including the UK Singles Chart (#4), US Billboard Pop 100 (#1), and U.S. Billboard Top 40 Mainstream (#2).
The song has already been heralded by many as one of the best pop melodies of 2007.
