I was given a reasonable quote from 3 different window companies, and I chose the company that gave the best answers to all of my questions. They phoned the date through for fitting the double glazing, and they turned up promptly on that date (3rd January 2007). That is about it for all of the good points...
On day 1 they removed the front door and replaced it with the new one, which they never sealed for 3 days. On day 3 they fitted the bay window and noticed that one of the hinges was broken when fitting. I was informed that a replacement hinge had been ordered and would be fitted when the porch double glazing was being fitted. The workmanship is shoddy to say the least. They returned to complete the job, and after informing them of damage to the roof caused by one of their fitters, I was informed that NG Roofing would come to mend the roof, and at the same time the new hinge would be fitted. It is now March, and after more than a dozen calls and 5 promises of dates that they would come, I still have no replacement hinge.
This company do not realise that the individual has been protected, and that under the 'Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982' (as amended), the individual can claim a free repair or replacement. If this goes to a small claims court then the company will be liable for any charges, and also if the repair has to be undertaken, then all other costs to put the job right. A letter must be written and ideally sent to U2 Conservatories and Windows by recorded delivery.
