General Comments

Being my first air rifle I didn't really won't to spend a lot on one I paid £30 at my local gun shop what I though was a good price. I'd looked up the rifle on the internet and found out that it was a very easy rifle to tune your self and easy to make it a £100 air rifle with little work needed. It took me about 3 hours to tune and make a real good air rifle there's loads of sites to show how to tune them. Once i'd finished my tune and had a go with open sights at 25ft I was hitting bull every time after a few adjustments on the sights. This rifle is such a good first time buy for first time shooters or even the oldies who just want a project to do.

" Bad stock finish " - the finish on a stock is probably the most important factor that indicates how good a rifle is. For example, some bottom end SMK models have what looks like an inch of varnish on them - this points to the quality of the rifle in most cases.

Generally the glossier the stock on a rifle, the worse it will be. Of course this doesn't apply to every model but it's a good rule to go by !!

Hope this helps you - and next time you should spend a little bit more, because rifles can get so much better for a little more cash :

I could recommend the SMK XS 36 (sometimes called the QB 36) which is an underlever for £80 maximum. Also have a look at the SMK XS 78 or XS 79 models, which run on CO2 - this means that there's no kick and hence greater accuracy, and they run at 10 ft/lbs which is near the legal limit. You can pick one of these up for around £70 - very recommended.

    Regards,

    James.
