It won't start!

General Comments

I have this 32PW6515 for just over 2 years. It has now developed a habit of going on strikes
It sometimes refuses to start. When I switch it on, the power light lit, but the screen remain black and silent. Under normal circumstances I will hear a cracking sound (from the tube?) when the screen become white. But when it is on strike, no sound is heard. The set was suspected to be interfered with my wireless broadband router from LinkSys, but it has been ruled out.

The only remedy I have discovered is to unplug the power and leave it for a few hours. But recently it has gone on strikes rather often, which is very annoying.

Anyone has the similar problems?

I have exactly the same problems and am trying to resolve them - if you get the answer please post

I have experienced the same problems.
This morning, I switched on my TV and it did not display any picture.
After several trials, I discovered the cause of the problem. If I switch my tv set on and disconnect the aerial, I can watch tv (well, that gray thing when there is no channel to display) and I can switch to DVD or VCR or anything, and operate it as normal.
As soon as I connect the aerial and I try to switch to one of the channels, after a few seconds it lock out.
My belief is that somehow, the carrier signal is affecting the TV: probably the channel ID (displayed at the bottom) is causing a bug in the TV frontend and locks out.
I am about to try tonight watching TV through the VCR, that is aerial plugged into VCR, and SCART from VCR to TV. I am pretty sure I will not experience this problem anymore.

We have exactly the same problem too. Has anyone managed to get theirs fixed? We have been told by our tv repair company that the board PCB 3139 needs replacing but philips will not release the board and are denying that it is faulty. Our tv repair company says the tv should have been recalled as it is a common fault. Anyone no where to go from here??? Our tv is 2 and a half years old

I have my local tv repair company (phase TV in west byfleet, woking, surrey) fix the telly. It took them ages and they had to replace a main chip. The total cost of the repair was about £140.

If there are similar problems for the same telly, then Philips should have recalled the set!

    Yes

I wrote to Philips and complained bitterly (my set is nearly 2 years old) I told them that the fault is obviously common because of my internet research and because all the repair companies I'd spoken to seemed aware of the fault. Philips got me to send my original receipt, a REPORT from a local TV repair company (not a quote). They were very efficient and responsive, they offered to fix it for £55 (labour only) I was very persisitant, telling them that although I appreciated their offer I still thought it unfair due to the supposed quality of Philips products (it should have lasted longer than 2 years) and eventually they had it taken away and repaired it, with apparently updated parts, for nothing.

This morning it happened again. Same problem as above.
This time, I changed the RF cable, and watched a tape, for about 30 minutes, no problem. Then I switched back to the terrestrial channels (CH4 I believe it was), *through* the VCR, and bang! the TV stop responding.
As before, the only thing I could do to resolve the situation was to switch the TV off, using the front panel switch, detach the aerial and switch it back on. All fine, I could watch DVD's and tapes.
But as soon as I was trying to watch some normal TV, again, through the VCR, which is connected to the TV via a SCART, the TV's controls were in tilt.
I now suspect a sort of weird signal coming through the mast must confuse the TV. So far, it only happens in the mornings between 7.15am - 800am. Most days I switch the TV on at about 6.45am and switch it off at about 7.05am.
No problems whatsoever in the afternoon or evenings.
Again this is solely related to the terrestrial channels.
I wonder if the introduction of DVB on terrestrial TV carries some kind of signal that this TV is unable to decode.
    Time will tell.

    apeiron,

The problems with my set happened gradually. Initially we can wait, or press some button, to fix it. Soon it got worse and worse, and finally stopped working altogether!

So don't be happy so soon. watch out.

Your best bet is to get Philips to repair it for free.
