A wonderful refreshing taste change.
Organic.
Unique.
Bad Points
Quite expensive!
Would not be to everyones taste but worth a try if you enjoy Teas like Chai.
General Comments
Licorice, Egyptian Spice Tea is a wonderful infusion of;
Licorice
Cinnamon
Ginger
Orange Peel
Cardamom
Black Pepper
Roasted Chicory
Barley Malt
Cloves
Orange Extract (natural flavour)
Vanilla Extract (natural flavour)
Now that sounds like a very interesting list of for this Tea I think you will agree! It would not be to everyone's tastes but I love it! You can taste the sweet licorice coming boldly through the other spices which really enhance the flavour. Obviously if you do not like licorice you probably won't like this at all! This tea is unique, but if I could liken it to any tea it would be Chai which also contains spices, but does not have the gorgeous Licorice flavour Yogi Tea Licorice Egyptian Spice has.
It is an Ayurvedic Spice Infusion. If this means nothing to you, Ayurveda comes from Ancient India and means 'The Science of Life'. It has been practised for over 5,000 years. It supposedly brings comfort and balance to the many aspects of your daily life.
(I just like the taste to be honest! But this may be of interest to anyone interested in this science!)
Licorice has been used by many ancient cultures for its natural sweetness, rich flavour and healthful properties. It was so revered by the ancient Egyptians there were bundles of licorice found in King Tutankhamon's tomb, left there for his enjoyment in the after life.
The tea comes in boxes of just 15 tea-bags and I paid £1.89 in Sainsburys, so it does work out quite expensive compared to many other infusion teas. Each tea-bag is individually wrapped, attached to a tab and string for ease of use. Each tab has little words of wisdom written on it, such as:
'Recognise that the other person is you'
'See the soul and divinity in everybody'
'To learn, read, To know, write, To master, teach'
So if you are into Spiritualism this tea will be right up your street!
There is even simple Yoga instruction on the box!
The tea should be brewed a little longer than most teas, about seven minutes, so if you make it in a mug or cup, cover with a saucer to keep it as hot as possible. The aroma is extremely pleasant! Once brewed, remove the tea-bag and sweeten to taste. I find sweetening it just a little brings out the flavour even more. Add a touch of milk if, like me, you don't like any tea without it, or drink it black. One would imagine this tea to appear very dark or black, in fact it doesn't, it looks quite weak. But when you taste it, that wonderful licorice and spice flavour hits your taste-buds giving you that OOOOH WOW factor!
I find it suitable for drinking at any time but it is an acquired taste so you may prefer it at certain times of day. As there is no caffeine in this tea it is entirely suitable as a night cap. As it has the WOW factor, I find it naturally stimulating in the morning! And as I really enjoy the flavour I will drink it in the afternoons too if the desire takes me! But this tea IS expensive, and I love changing my tea flavours, so this is a tea I keep for when I just want a taste change.
You will probably either love it, or hate it! Worth a try, but only if you love licorice!
