It's a big car, excellent for family and load lugging.
Official Toyota services are expensive.
Going from a small car (Daewoo Matiz) to the Toyota Carina CDX 2.0 was quite a shock. It took me ages to get used to the shear size of it, and parking in car parks at first was very hit & miss. It's excellent for lugging stuff around, the cavernous boot easily takes a 5 foot fridge/freezer with space to spare.
It's not as fast off the mark as you might expect from a 2 litre engine, but it's a big, heavy car, and wheel-spinning even in 1st and 2nd is easily done, and 3rd is possible. The weight also plays against it on country roads, where it wallows around hard corners and the weight of the car is evident.
Letting the engine rev up above 4,000rpm and it starts to make lovely noises, and the fuel consumption is reasonable, at 35-38mpg.
Even in my 3rd hand, 117,000 mile 10 year old example, all the electrical toys still work.
Make sure that the cam-belt has been changed, as it's a £250 job from Toyota, due every 5 years or 100,000 miles
