General Comments

I took out a very comprehensive cover for my 19 year old daughter and myself (51) with a premium of £123.10 per month for the two of us. My daughter suffered one bout of tonsillitis as most children do in their lifetime, in February 2004, which cleared up totally after a course of antibiotics, approximately 3 months before I took out the policy in June 2004. She then contracted a nasty virus in August 2006 whilst travelling in Australia on her gap year, and she has had several recurring bouts since August 2006, whereby the consultant that I paid for (PPP refused to pay the consultant) recommended that she would be better off having them removed). I instigated a claim with AXA PPP in December 2006, and it has taken them until the 26th of February 2007 to give me an answer, which was "no"! God help us if we had been seriously ill. AXA PPP classed this as a pre-existing condition as it appeared on her doctor's notes. I explained this scenario to BUPA who assured me that I would have been covered because of the time that had elapsed between the original bout of tonsillitis...no guessing which insurance we have gone to now! All my partner has to do is ring up BUPA and it's authorised there and then.

So the moral of the story is: if you have had even the most minor illness and it is recorded on your doctor's notes you will not be covered. So don't get any complications or secondary infection from a cold etc.

We had to physically go and collect the medical history information form from PPP in Tunbridge Wells as the two previously sent never arrived, and one was an empty envelope. They do not even have the facility to download a form as a PDF document, which these days is positively archaic! One can imagine if you were really ill how distressing so much form filling and correspondence would be. GO TO BUPA - they don't have all this rubbish...my partner should know as she has been with them over 20 years and has had several claims.
