General Comments

Well, I put over 8,000 rounds through this rifle in the 4 years I've had it and it didn't have a service, and it was on its last legs,

It had mangled 2 scopes, and AGS mildont 3-9x40 which was replaced under warranty and a Webley silver 4x32 scope, it had bent a 1 piece mount it had thrown the iron sights off on many occasions which had took a chunk out of my lovely walnut stock, the trigger felt like it was about to fall out, the barrel was drooping, and to top it all off, a stock screw had snapped inside the rifle rendering it useless.

I was on the brink of chucking it in the bin, when i received an e-mail from Phil Bulmer, saying he's got a good idea of what the problem might be, and he'd sort it out for us. So the next day I sent the Stingray off, and Phil received it the next day.

He decided to give the rifle a test over the chronograph, and it was producing just over 8 ft lbs! Compared to the 11.5 ft lbs it should be doing!

Phil took the rifle to bits and found the problems.

1. The breach seal was knackered, i knew about this.
2. There was virtually no lubricant in the rifle.
3. The piston seal was virtually gone.

I received an E-mail from him, asking whether i had loaded oil into the transfer port, i replied to him yes i have, as the original Webley Stingray instruction manual said to do so and says that it'd do it good, but it did the complete opposite, it lead to dieseling and combustion occurring inside the rifle. Eating away at the piston seal and burning all of the lubricant... and lead to a knackered rifle.

Phil acquired the parts to get the Stingray running to factory standard again, but he managed to get a Venom V mach stage 1 tuning kit. with Venom v mach kits for Stingrays, you get the main spring, piston and a molybdenum piston head and all the lubricants acquired, you don't get a spring guide as the spring itself sits so snuggly inside the rifle.

With the new kit inside the rifle, he then chronographed the rifle, and it was producing a steady, consistent 11.5 ft lbs, with out the horrible mule like kick of a recoil, so around about 560fps with a 16 grain round.

I got the rifle a couple of weeks later, and how good it felt to have it back.

I tried the Stingray with the Iron sights and was pleased to see they weren't being thrown off after every five shots! I was able to knock down 5/5 cans at 25 yards with the opens

I then tried the rifle with a newly supplied AGS 3-9x40 mil dot scope, with a 1 piece mount, and that wasn't being thrown off either! 1 1/2" groupings at 30 yards unsupported, the recoil is next to nothing now, it is very short and snappy, and doesn't affect your point of aim at all.

Considering the rifle needs to have 500 rounds put through it to be "run in" the rifle is very consistent, and it is now lovely to hear a "thunk" as opposed to a long winded "TWANG!" and with the Logun silencer, it is even quieter. Cannot wait to take her out into the field!

I'd also like to take the opportunity, to than the people from AGS for providing the parts like the breach seal and stock screws, to get it going to factory standard, The people from AGW for featuring my rifle in the magazine, And finally to Phil Bulmer for all the hard work that has been put into this rifle to get it shooting so brilliantly!

Hope you all enjoyed this!

Regards

Tom
