We bought the A100-338 laptop, thinking that with the Toshiba name we couldn't go wrong. How wrong we were. From Day one the Toshiba was very slow operating. Then it happened ...the Dreaded Blue Screen with a message saying there is "A serious error, so your laptop will be shutdown to prevent further damage".
For several days we tried everything - rebooting, starting up in safe mode. Sometimes we did get into Windows, but then it would always freeze up again and shutdown. Took it back to PC World and they restored the machine, but a day later the sudden shutdown happened again.
PC world admitted the Laptop was a dead loss. So we got a refund for the Toshiba, and paid a little extra for a Compaq laptop which we are very happy with
A friend of mine said that whilst working at Network Rail the company had such a nightmare with Toshiba machines, they completely banned any further Toshiba PC purchases.

A few more details would be constructive.

    What OS?

    What did PC World say?

Your contacts who banned them on site - what model, what was their ICT departments policy for laptops?

What did MS say about the Blue Screeens?

The OS running (or rather not running) was Vista.

PC World were most helpful and professional. They helped me to reformat / restore my laptop, but it failed again the very same day.

The Toshiba technical guy on the telephone told me that he also had a new Toshiba laptop running Vista, and had also got the Blue error screen. He assured me it would go away eventually. But he was wrong

My Compaq laptop, which PC world kindly replaced my Toshiba with, also runs Vista and runs like a dream
