Efficient and attentive service. The fact that there was no cigarette smoke- literally a breath of fresh air.
The menu was incredibly pseudo, I felt that it was masquerading itself as Italian by smothering everything in Parmesan shavings which I found overpowering and at times unpalatable, especially on a Beef Burger and Green Salad! In fact, the whole scenario was pseudo and poorly executed, the use of rectangular wooden slabs instead of plates seemed impractical and I felt unjustifiably pretentious given the mediocre standard of the food. When giving an honest critique of a restaurant, it's by ordering the simplest dish on the menu that one can gain a true insight into the chef's raw ability and technical prowess. I chose to forgo the lavishly seasoned pasta dishes in favour of the humble beef burger, which admittedly sounded very appetizing. The beef was nicely cooked and tender but I feel that it was ruined by an over-abundance of plum tomato, sundried tomato and the pervasive Parmesan shavings. It was a shame, because the food could have been decent gastro pub fayre without being too elaborate, but this meal was sadly marred by an apparent lack of quality and understanding of good food.
I hope the restaurant does not fade in six months time and end up on Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares because I would like to see it succeed, but first and foremost the chef must get back to basics and consider not messing around with his food.
